Downloading Data from American Time Use Survey (ATUS)

American Time Use Survey is published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The survey is conducted by the Census Bureau on a continuing basis.

This Survey measures the amount of time people spend doing various activities, such as paid work, childcare, volunteering, and socializing.

Best part: Data is available online to view and download.

Steps to download data

Step 1: From the ATUS home page, click on ATUS database.


Step 2: Click on "tables" on the Historical Tables.


Step 3: Select your table.


Step 4: Select your data and click the "Retrieve data" button.

Click on the image to zoom in.


Step 5: Retrieve your data. Note that each variable has a separate spreadsheet.




Please enter your name and email address to retrieve a copy of your completed quiz.

You can enter multiple email addresses separated by commas. If you are doing this for a class, you may need to enter your instructor's email address also.
